2025: Flyability, creators of the confined space drone Elios 3, is proud to announce that it has received an Innovation Endorsement certification from Japanese classification society ClassNK. This formal certificate recognizes new, innovative technologies and solutions in the maritime sector. This certificate has
been awarded to the Elios 3 drone and its ultrasonic thickness measurement (UT) payload.
Flyability’s Elios 3 is the first drone to be awarded this certification. ClassNK, or Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, is a Japanese classification society that provides services related to the safety and environmental protection of ships, offshore structures, and other maritime vessels. As a key regulator in maritime operations, their certifications are carefully considered and require the solution or technology to demonstrate it is safe, reliable, and compliant with the applicable regulations and standards. Their certification of the Elios 3 UT is an incredible acknowledgement of the value this drone offers to the maritime sector, particularly in gathering data related to enhancing safety.
“The Elios 3 and its ultrasonic thickness measurement payload is setting a new standard in the maritime sector. The Innovation Endorsement certification from ClassNK not only validates its safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance but also highlights the transformative role of drones in enhancing inspection capabilities and improving safety in confined spaces”, said Wataru Wakatsuki, Flyability Country Manager for Japan.
The Innovation Endorsement Approach that the Elios 3 UT has been certified with falls under the products and solutions category. With the Elios 3 UT’s growing presence in the maritime sector, this certification demonstrates that regulatory bodies are recognizing this remote inspection technology as a tried and tested solution.
Flyability will be present at the Bari-Ship Imabari Maritime Fair 2025 on May 22-24th at Imabari in Ehime, Japan. Flyability’s booth, BC-48, will feature the Elios 3 and its UT payload. In Japan, Blue Innovation is the official partner for Flyability, offering support and localized services, enabling a wide range of local industries to benefit from the Elios 3 in inspections, data collection, and safety. More information about the Elios 3 UT is available on the Flyability website.
