Gemini Live gets better on the iPhone, with Google rolling out free camera and screen sharing support to all users.
The feature allows you to feed a live stream of your surroundings using the iPhone’s camera, and interact with Gemini to get more information about it.
Gemini Live on the iPhone gets even better
With iPhone 16 and iOS 18, Apple debuted Visual Intelligence. Point your iPhone’s camera at an object to learn more about it. Think of Gemini Live’s screen and camera sharing as a similar feature, but on steroids. Your iPhone continuously streams live camera footage to Gemini. This allows the AI assistant to identify, explain, and provide more information about whatever you see.
Gemini Live’s camera and screen sharing capabilities have been available to Android users for the last couple of months. At Google I/O 2025, the company announced the feature’s expansion to Gemini’s iPhone and iPad app. Google only recently released a dedicated Gemini app for the iPad.
The feature goes live today and, best of all, comes at no cost.
While Google’s AI features rapidly evolve, Apple continues struggling to bring Siri up to par with the competition. The company may even open up iOS 19 to let you ditch Siri for a smarter assistant.
Use Gemini Live’s AI prowess in everyday life
Besides the camera feed, you can share your iPhone screen with Gemini and ask for more information or help on a specific topic you are reading. I frequently feed my phone’s camera feed to Gemini to get ideas on organizing my work desk or messy cupboards better.
To start a camera or screen sharing session, first initiate a Gemini Live session and then tap the screen or camera icon.
Google also revealed at I/O 2025 that Gemini Live will gain support for Gemini apps in the “coming weeks.” This integration will enable real-time access to Google Maps, Calendar, and Tasks as you interact with Gemini.
