There is some real good energy this year. I feel a kind of lightness that was not there before. IoT is becoming confident. Confident that it will eat AI as it will run more at the edge where processing gets done, it will run on and from the chip and native AI applications will become embedded in infrastructures, products and and applications running at both cloud and edge. More and more machines are getting connected.
More and more decision in small environments and on large scale are being made on the data coming from sensors and measured data.
Of course this basic layer is not objective and it needs to be coupled with Machine Learning and trustworthy AI.
But it gives us a basis for decision making capable of factoring in long term effects in short term decisions.
This is unprecedented.
And this, as Rob Tiffany says, gives us indeed a basis for saving the earth with IoT.
#iotday is 15 years old. This year it really feels mature and light.
Engineers and computer scientists are becoming more convinced they are doing something that is good not just for themselves, or business but fort larger decision making systems as well. This year, currently, there are 30 sellf-organized events:
